Stacked is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the app.

Overview

Stacked is a personal book library app. Your library data is stored on your device. If you choose to use iCloud, your library may also be stored and synced through Apple’s iCloud and CloudKit services. Stacked does not operate its own servers to collect or store your library.

Stacked does not display ads and does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Information You Provide

When you use Stacked, you may enter or import information such as:

  • Book titles, authors, ISBNs, publishers, and publication years

  • Ratings, notes, and other metadata you choose to add

  • Storage locations, formats, and copy counts

  • Optional cost and list price information (Stacked +)

  • Custom cover images you add

This information is stored locally on your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, it is also stored in your private iCloud account through Apple CloudKit.

Information Stored and Processed on Your Device

Stacked stores your library in a local database on your device. Depending on your settings, the app may also:

  • Use your device camera to scan barcodes or text to help you find books. Scanning is processed on your device using Apple’s VisionKit. Stacked does not upload camera images to its own servers.

  • Accept input from a connected Bluetooth barcode scanner treated as keyboard input. Stacked does not collect Bluetooth device identifiers beyond what is needed for normal system input.

  • Export your library to files you choose to save or share (for example CSV, PDF, or a Stacked backup file).

iCloud Sync and Collection Sharing (Optional)

If you sign in to iCloud and enable sync, Stacked uses Apple iCloud and CloudKit to:

  • Sync your library across your devices

  • Share a collection with other iCloud users you invite

When sharing is enabled:

  • People you invite can view and edit the shared collection according to the permissions you grant.

  • Stacked may store your iCloud user record name and a display name (such as your first name from your Apple ID) to show who added a book.

  • If you are the owner of a shared collection, Stacked may sync whether your Stacked + subscription is active so shared access permissions can be updated for participants.

  • Stacked registers for remote notifications so CloudKit can deliver sync and sharing updates. These notifications are handled by Apple’s services.

You can use Stacked in local-only mode without iCloud. Your iCloud data is managed under your Apple ID and Apple’s privacy practices.

Book Search (ISBNdb)

When you search for books or look up an ISBN, Stacked sends your search query or ISBN to ISBNdb to retrieve book metadata (such as title, author, synopsis, and cover image URLs). Stacked does not send your full library to ISBNdb—only the information needed to perform the search or lookup you request.

ISBNdb may collect and process information according to its own privacy practices. You can learn more at:

Cover images shown in search results may be loaded directly from third-party image hosts referenced by ISBNdb or stored in your library.

Subscriptions and Purchases (Apple)

Stacked offers optional Stacked + subscriptions processed through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. Payment, subscription status, and purchase history are handled by Apple, not by Stacked directly.

If you redeem a complimentary access code, Stacked stores only whether access has been unlocked. That status may sync across your devices using Apple’s iCloud Key-Value Store when you are signed in to iCloud.

Data We Do Not Collect

Stacked itself does not:

  • Sell your personal information

  • Run advertising or ad tracking

  • Operate its own account system or backend database for your library

  • Collect your library contents for marketing or analytics

We do not receive your library data unless you choose to contact us directly.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your library remains on your device until you delete it in the app or remove the app from your device. If you use iCloud, your data may also remain in your iCloud account until you delete it there or disable sync. If you leave a shared collection, you lose access to that live shared library, but the owner’s copy remains.

You can export your library at any time using Stacked’s export features.

Children’s Privacy

Stacked is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent version.
